Big Fish, Bena, MN

This newly-restored Big Fish roadside attraction is found along Highway 2 in northern MN outside of the tiny town of Bena. It apparently was featured in the opening credits of National Lampoon’s Vacation, along with a handful of other Minnesota attractions.

In the last decade or so it fell into despair, and was on the endangered attractions list. But a roadside attraction enthusiast from MN chipped in 10K to revive it back to life. Long live the Big Fish!

Big Pink Elephant – DeForest, WI

Welcome to  HighwayHighlights.com!

elphant
In DeForest, WI, off the side of the interstate is a life-size pink elephant wearing hipster glasses. I know you were wondering…. Yes the elephant was wearing those glasses before you were born. He also likes indie music, PBR in a can, and rides his Schwinn around town while silently judging you.

The pink elephant was made by the F.A.S.T. Corporation down the road in Sparta, WI. It’s a classic Wisconsin roadside oddity that begs a stop for the weary traveler.  Check him out.

While in the area: Madison! Travel to the south about 15 miles to the state’s capital to learn a little history about Minnesota’s neighbor to the east. Time your trip with Halloween for a real throw-down.
