It may come as a surprise to visitors (and even many Minnesotans) that even the most simple sounding town names are pronounced differently by the locals. And while in the past I have written about great Minnesota town names, and the extremely uncreative ones, here are 6 towns in our great state that you are probably pronouncing wrong.

Slim’s Woodshed, Harmony, MN
Slim’s Woodshed, in the small town of Harmony, MN (south of Rochester, MN), is a fascinating place. It’s a museum known as the largest Woodcarving Museum in the United States, home to over 4,000 pieces, collected and/or created over a 60-year span by owner Stanley “Slim” Maroushek. Medora, ND: Badlands Tourist Town
By far the biggest tourism draw in North Dakota, Medora is grand central station for exploring the Badlands, a rugged, scenic, rocky part of western North Dakota. During the winter, Medora is mostly a ghost town, with few year-round residents. But in the summer, the place comes alive, offering a great amount of things to discover.
