Last year we checked out the Top 50 vintage neon signs found in the great state of Minnesota. Sadly, some of the beauties in our original installment are no longer there. Buildings get demolished, signs get upgraded, businesses close, things fall into disrepair. If you’re looking for quirky, this one is a pretty good destination. The Franconia Sculpture Park’s 43-acre spread just west of Taylor’s Falls, MN, has plenty of things to see. Plan to spend a good hour or two there, maybe more if art is your thing. There is a lot to take in and it’s constantly changing, so grab your camera and open your imagination. Continue reading
The Rock in the House is about as literal of a name for an attraction as you can get. It’s a rock. In a house. The story goes, back on April 24, 1995, a 55-ton disc-shaped boulder broke off the side of a rock outcrop high above the town of Fountain City, Wisconsin, and rolled down the hill right into the back of a house. Over the past year, we covered the Top 100 Coolest Houses in Minnesota in two separate installments. The historic beauties all over the state ran the gamut in terms of architecture, sizes, locations, and styles, but there were just so many that I couldn’t squeeze into the Top 100, no matter how much I wanted to include them. So here are the next 50!
Lanesboro, MN should have made our Top 10 Towns in Minnesota list, without a doubt. I had a great deal of readers mention it, and I acknowledge that if I could go back and re-do it, I would have definitely included it. It’s a beautiful little gem of a town, set deep in the heart of southern Minnesota’s Bluff County along the Root River. It’s touristy, too. There are more B&B’s here than any other small town in Minnesota, most of which are located in old, Victorian homes dating back to the late 1800’s. Continue reading
